I’ll Lend You A Child

“I’ll lend you for a little time a child of mine,” He said,
“for you to love while she lives and mourn for when she’s dead.
It may be six or seven, or twenty-two or three,
but will you, ‘til I call her back, take care of her for me?
She’ll bring her smiles to gladden you,
and should this stay be brief,
you’ll have her lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return,
but there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked this world over in search for teachers true,
and from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give her all your love, nor count the labour vain,
nor hate Me when I come to call to take her back again?”
I fancied that I heard them say, “Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
for all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter her with tenderness, we’ll love her while we may,
and for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for her much sooner than we planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that come and try to understand.”

Ever Near

She is away, yet ever near,
her presence fills each day.
Her voice, her smile are everywhere,
a memory away.
And though she is no longer seen,
by family and friends,
she lives because she was dearly loved,
and love can never end.

What is Dying?

A ship sails
and I stand watching
until she fades from the horizon.
Someone at my side says ‘she is gone!’
Gone where?
Gone from my sight that is all.
She is just as large as when I first saw her.
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her.
Just at that moment when someone at my side says ‘she is gone!’
There are others, who are watching her coming,
other voices take up a glad shout “Here she comes’
And that is what dying is all about.

In all the world there is nobody like you!
Since the beginning of time there has never been another
person like you and in the future there never will be.
Nobody has your smile, your eyes, your hands or your hair.
Nobody owns your handwriting, your voice or your thoughts.
Nobody has your taste for food, music, dance or art.
Nobody in the world see things like you do.
In all time there has never been anyone who laughs, cries or thinks
exactly in your way, no one responds to your emotions like you do.
You are different from any other person who has ever lived in this world.
You are the only one in creation who has your own
particular set of abilities, talents, thoughts and outlook on life.
There is always someone who is better at one thing or another
but nobody in the world can reach the quality of the
combination of your own talents and feelings.
Through all eternity no one will ever walk, talk, think or act as you do.
You are rare and in all that rareity there is enormous value and
because of your great value the need to imitate anyone
is not necessary, so be yourself, the original is always better than a copy.
and it is no accident that you are so.
Realise that God made you for a special purpose.
There’s a job for you out there somewhere that no one else can do.
Out of billions of people only one person is qualified,
only one person has the unique and right combinations of what it takes
and that person is you.

The Clock of Life

The clock of life is wound but once
and no man has the power,
to know just when the clock will stop
at late or early hour.

This is the only time we own
live, love, work with a will,
place no faith in tomorrow
for the clock may then be still.

Time may hide the sadness,
like a smile that hides the tears.
But memories hold you close to us,
despite the passing years.
You may be out of sight,
we may be worlds apart.
But you are always on our minds
and forever in our hearts.

For every year that passes,
we seem to find a way
to wander back to meet you
on the road called yesterday.
Those precious years won't come again
when we were all together,
but the joy and love you gave us
will stay with us forever.
No matter how we spend our day,
no matter what we do,
before we close our eyes at night
we always think of you.

May the winds of love blow softly
and whisper so you hear,
we will always love and miss you
and wish that you were here.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,
Love leaves a memory no one can steal.

If Tomorrow Never Comes

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly and pray your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk through the door,
I would give you a big hug and kiss and call you back for more.

If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would videotape each action and word to play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time I could spare an extra minute or two
To stop and say "I love you" instead of assuming you would know that I do.

If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight,
And we always get a second chance to make everything alright.

There will always be another day to say our "I love yous."
And certainly there's another chance to say our "anything I can dos?"

But just in case I might be wrong and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you and hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day
that you didn't take the extra time for a smile, a hug or a kiss,
and you were too busy to grant someone what may be their last wish.

So hold your loved one close today, whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear.

Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me," "thank you" or "it's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.

Loving you is easy
We do it every day.
Missing you is a heartache
That will never go away.

"Sometimes love is for a moment.
Sometimes love is for a lifetime.
Sometimes a moment is a lifetime."
Martin Luther

"How softly you tiptoed into my world,
so silently, only a moment you stayed,
but what an imprint your footsteps
have left upon my heart."
Thomas Jefferson

"A life measured in memories, not years."
The Wish Foundation

"Gone too soon, like a rainbow in the sky."
Michael Jackson

"Because of you I love a little more.
Because of you I take time to give an extra kiss goodbye.
Because of you there may be dust on the windowsill and I don't care.
Because of you I live today, before I worry about tomorrow.
Because of you, I don't give up so fast.
Because of you I still believe in rainbows.
Because of you, now I can help or listen more.
Because of you, today, I am me."
